Deep In Studio #2

Something nostalgic: Satin Jackets feat. Eric Cozier - Hollywood (Original Mix)

My musical journey during the last year has been amazing. There are so many good tracks around and of course, hard working producers behind them.
One of them is Satin Jackets, an electronic duo from Germany who started only 3 years ago. But everything they have produced is just awesome. And this track is awesome too. It reminds me sounds from the 80ties, and it still has familiar modern electronic tone attached. It's hard to classify the genre of this track, but this actually makes it really unique in it's own kind.
Have a listen to this beauty:

Dems - Down On You (Hannes Fischer Remix)

Although I try to not judge music too much and just try to describe it, I sometimes make exceptions. And this one here is an exception. I just could not find any other words to describe it. All the words are way too positive, nothing objective.
Unbelievable. Somehow crazy. Somewhat strange. I listened to this track three times in a row. I still cannot believe that someone has created such a unique sound combination. It's very deep, very chill, kind of unexpected... I just don't have enough kind words for describing it. Have a listen to that beauty, remixed by Hannes Fischer:

Background series: Bakermat - Leven

Although half of the summer has already passed, I still feel like there is a beginning of it outside. A guy named "Bakermat" has caught lot of my attention meanwhile. Looks like he has found his unique sound and it really distinguishes him from everyone else. Just in time, when I was looking for some nice summer-sax tunes, I found this guy from Soundcloud. And he has a website too, just take a look at http://bakermatmusic.com/. This guy is definitely a rising star, let's give him a little applause with this track again:

Background series: Corgon City ft. Yasmin - Real

I must admit that I love this track. I heard it from the radio while driving back home during midnight. That doesn't happen so often that you hear such stuff from estonian mainstream radio station. Big thanks to Spin FM who played it. Usually they just play mainstream and such stuff is very rare, at least during hours when I listen to that station. It somehow caught my ear and I grabbed my smartphone and let TrackID do some work for me. Really stunning track. I am more than sure that it will do some good job in a warmup set or a lounge session. Kind of a sad subtone, but amazing vocals and simple production combined are proving the old principle again: simple is better.

The Temper Trap - Fader (Adam Freeland remix)

The Temper Trap has been always in my heart. All the tracks they produce are just pure gold. And sometimes some remixer picks some of their tracks and makes a remix. Like this one by Adam Freeland, the vibe from the original track has remained and it still sounds awesome! The fact that makes this particular tune awesome is the ingenious electro tone wrapped around the original indie rock sound :)

Modern pop turned into 80ties: Duke Dumont - Need U (100%) feat. A*M*E (SKREAMIX)

I think I heard this track from some podcast already a while ago. But didn't pay attention to it at the beginning, because Duke Dumont - Need U (100%) is played probably all over the world right now and there is no house music DJ who does not know that track. So it's kind of mainstream and talking about this track does not introduce anything new for the listener or reader. But still - 80ties! Current top 40 conqueror is remixed in a very good way, it's not another dub or dubstep or techno mix - it's 80ties style and I think it is remarkable. Definitely and outstanding remix that will probably bring more attention to this outstanding track. I think it will be a good intro track for some 80ties session in a DJ set - you won't scare people away with too old tracks suddenly dropping in, but you can do some tricks with this one :)

Oh childhood, you just came back with this track, although the track was actually produced lately :)

DJ Ziggy M - Live @ Tsink Plekk Pang Water Pipe Lounge

I had an honour to play some stuff in a one-hour timeframe last night at Tsink Plekk Pang in Tartu. We organized our event with other fellow dj-s and had some fun. This time I really thought that it is time to step out of my shoes and try out something new and mix together different tunes from different genres. I hope you like it, so here it is (though last 20minutes are not technically very well mixed, I am still proud of it:)):

Vive la France!: DJ Falcon - Honeymoon

As I took a trip to Toulouse, France this week, I was particularly interested in french house. We all know David Guetta but hey, everybody knows him and his tracks, so I decided to dig around and educate myself in french house and french house artists. The one who caught my attention quite in the beginning was DJ Falcon. He is pretty famous too, but still haven't heard him for a while. So I decided to pick this track and bring some more attention to it, I think it is a good track and definitely deserves playing.

Vive la France!

Background series: Bakermat - Zomer (Original mix)

Aahh.... summer! Summer is approaching! Imagine yourself sitting on a terrace and enjoying some tasty and clever coctail. During these moments it is inevitable to presume that some melodic and enjoyable track is playing in background and giving more inspiration and new thoughts while we are talking with our loved ones.
Let me introduce you something made by Bakermat:

I think that this is a real summer tune, containing a good bassline with enjoyable sax and flutes on top :)

Background series: Claptone - No Eyes feat. Jaw | Exploited

As my musical sense is developing and I understand many things differently tomorrow than today, then I started my next series of musical selection. Please say welcome to the "Background series".

What is a background music? I define it like this: it's peaceful, it may sound meaningful, there may be good lyrics or no lyrics at all. It should not catch too much attention. But still it should keep up and build slowly some positive, inspirational mood. To have a good party - we need inspiration as well. Inspired people make cool and interesting things. And parties are interesting and memorable, when people do cool and interesting things.

Is background music bad? The definition sounds like "kinda pointless stuff that nobody cares about, keeps away this weird silence". It's not definitely like that. Sometimes we do not want to build or develop anything, we just need good and melodical sound with some nice vocals too. So here it is, my "Background series", starting with this beauty:

Disclaimer: my opinions here are personal and not trying to convince anyone. These opionions may already change tomorrow after the first test of the track on the dance floor :)

Warmup series special: Kings Of Tomorrow featuring April 'Fall For You' (Sandy Rivera's Classic Mix)

When I heard that Sandy Rivera is going to record a music video in my home country's capital Tallinn, I was curious and blessed. And I was even more blessed, when I heard and saw the result:

What a nice girl track :)

Warmup series: Rudimental - Waiting All Night Feat. Ella Eyre (Clean Bandit Remix)

I think it is a perfect warmup tune. Sweet vocals on top of minimalistic but powerful sound production. Have a listen:

Warmup series: Adam Port - Black Noise

Found this track while shopping, and somehow it got stuck in my head. The producer of this track has managed to create some unique sound and vibe in it. Initially I found the KiNK mix (which is super awesome):

And when I find a track that is actually a remix, then I am of course interested in the original one, so here it is:

Warmup series: FCL - It's You (San Soda's Panorama Bar Acca Version)

Found this track when I clicked a link that Defected posted to Facebook. Perfect warmup tune, very minimalistic but it hides lots of emotions inside. When I listened it, I imagined at least 3 different places and situations where this track would bring out various emotions from different people.
Thank you FCL for this masterpiece, will definitely try it out in some lounge or a dance floor.

Warmup series: Rachel Row - Follow The Step (Kink Mix)

As I already shared another remix of this track before, I'd like to share this one too. I think all versions of this track are just amazing. Each one of them brings out something memorably good in this song. I was thinking once that maybe the song itself makes all remixes so good?
Let's follow the step and listen to the Kink Mix:

Warmup series: Miguel Migs & Shades Of Gray - Let Me (Salty Dub)

When it comes to building a good vibe in a DJ set, we need something really good, something that stands out, something that has some unique sound and repetition, enough speed and length. Just listen to this another masterpiece by Miguel Migs:

Ooooooh, what a vibe! Can you feel it?

Warmup series: Sandy Rivera ft. LT Brown - Come into my room (Take it back Mix)

There is one thing that I love in DJ-ing: getting a new tune or finding a long waited CD in your mailbox. I feel like 5-year old when getting a new toy, full of excitement and behaving like a little child when I receive my CD that I have ordered from Amazon around 2 weeks ago.
Today is a big day for me - I received my long-waited  House Masters series from Sandy Rivera, and of course I ordered this collection with a reason. There are some really delicious tunes, like this one:

Enjoy!

Warmup mix: Bedroom house session

I did a mix today and I am publishing it here. Just a bedroom jamming session that I recorded to my hard drive when mixing. Baah, I love DJM 350 mixer - it can record directly your master output to portable hard drive or USB - what a pleasure!
Here it is, my bedroom jamming session mixed and recorded today, in my very private and cozy bedroom:

Warmup series: Masters at Work feat. India - I can't get no sleep

Aaahh... what a voice! This girl drives every man crazy, at least me! So here it is, a nice collab from Master At Work and India, just listen to this voice!

Warmup series: Jakwob ft. Maiday - Fade (Club VIP Mix)

Today is Friday and my leg is in a cast. I twisted it exactly a week ago but the young soul inside me wants to have some fun, listen good music and dance. As I cannot quite exactly do this today, I am still imagining that I can do it and therefore I am posting here a track, that would be a good party starter on some friday evening:

Warmup series: Justin Martin - Ruff Stuff

Sometimes it is very interesting to hear some warmup tune in the warmup set with some unexpected sounds and tricky beats. Justin Martin knows how to build tracks like this, so here it is:

Warmup series: 12 Tones - Matters to me

Aah what a nice and melodic tune! Always love to hear those familiar melodies and vocals on top of good sound production. The thing that I like with this track is the combination between quite powerful vocal melody and quite minimalistic production. Simplicity just stands out and this makes it beautiful :)

Did you like it too? If yes, please let me know!

Warmup series: Rachel Row - Follow The Step (Justin Martin Remix)

As I am still warming up my blog and still posting here some more warmup tunes. This is definitely a perfect warmup tune:

I found it once from Beatport and of course it was one of my best emotional purchases!

Warmup series: Miguel Migs feat. Aya - Don't Stop

As I started my blog with warmup set, I'd like to introduce couple of good warmup tunes too. I think Miguel Migs has done some very good warmup tunes (I've played some of his tunes outside the bedroom too), like this:

But still, dependending on the set and evening, it could a good peak-hour track too :)

Warmup sets

Warmup sets are always great, no matter in which type of music or style they are. I think that warmup DJ-s are really these guys who need to be appreciated more. Typically when you hit the nightclub, you see some no-name DJ playing some slower and more quiet tunes at the beginning and you do not even notice who was that guy or what was his mission, not talking about the DJ name.

One of my favorite warmup makers has always been Armin Van Buuren (yes, he plays other music than trance too!).

So here it is, A State Of Trance 550 Warmup set from Kiev by mr Armin Van Buuren himself:

You can also have a look at Spotify and search for "A State Of Trance 600", they have posted some more warmup sets there.

If you know some good warmup sets or good warmup DJ-s, please don't hesitate to share their names or links below in the comments section!

What? Yet another music blog? YES!

Hey All, as I started DJ-ing already some months ago and my musical taste is developing, I decided to open a little diary to track stuff that I like and maybe share it with others.

All my sharings are based on my personal taste and the gut feel. I share DJ sets & separate tracks. I am not a prisoner of my own style.

I am hosting no radio show at the moment but this is actually the thing that has been in my mind for a long time now. When I get all legal stuff cleared up and there is nothing to complain about it by authorities, I'll start doing that.
But meanwhile, enjoy the show here!

Yours,
DJ Ziggy M (because DJ Ziggy is already taken!)
